Meet Our Single Icon

The interviewer deserves the stank eye so I deliberated about using this clip. But I also appreciate the way Oprah hands his snide misogyny back, so I allowed it. I have watched this clip about 50 times. That is how affirming and refreshing it is! Oprah Winfrey is our single icon this week and her self awareness and bold grasp of her own way of being (OWN! Get it?!) is beyond thrilling. Check out the video.

Is a “Mothership” for you?

Determined to remain unmarried after divorce, some single mothers in China have joined forces to share parenting duties and create economic stability for themselves and their children. Helen Davidson explores this phenomenon, including the benefits and risks. I found this quote especially compelling: “‘Since there’s no personal interest or benefit involved, this kind of relationship feels purer and simpler than marriage,’ says Jiang.” Would you consider a platonic mothership? Women Do Ask . . . But are we asking wrong?!

We will start the conversation with three prompts:

Taking Permission

but can i really do this?

What would it take for you to finally leave a toxic relationship? One key pattern I’ve seen in abusive relationships is how long they seem to last. I’m not being critical here; I hung in there for 10 years. Fourteen if you include dating.

I finally left when my choices were divorce or suicide by marriage. I figured divorce was the lesser sin. In other words, it took the threat of death. 👀

In this episode of “Just Getting Good”, a product of “The Financial Diet”, host Chelsea interviews Anita who, like me, was married at twenty-four to her spouse whom she had met at thirteen but ended her marriage of twenty-four years in one day. Could you be that decisive? Check out the video and share your thoughts in the comments below.

The Big Why
